Already the accusations are flying as to whos responsible, and as rescue workers still try to reach the injured and recover the dead at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, explosions have been seen and heard in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Speculation is rife already that this is the US in an immediate retaliatory strike at Osama bin Laden.

... also, it is reported that a third building - a 50-story one located adjacent to the towers has collapsed (another part of the World Trade Center, apparently) after going on fire from being hit by falling burning debris from one of the towers.

President Bush will address the nation at 9 p.m. EDT. I make that 2AM Irish time... right?

the 50,000 figure seems to be people working in the trade center complex - i.e. including all seven buildings.

I'm off to bed, but I can't imagine sleeping well. It's so weird that that's going on in the US but life goes on more or less as normal here.

The whole bombing of Kabul is just too weird... reports , that i saw, made it only 50/50 for the attack being part of the civil war, the nature of that conflict was that there was little or no attacks on kabul by the dissidents for numerous reasons, also the amount of tracer fire suggested alot of aircraft activity. This again points away from the rebels.


On a more cynical note, the effect on the world economy today was unreal, did anyone see the figure for the FTSE?!? This could effect this country quite badly

personally, i don't even know if these actually are quatrains from nosty, but the person that sent me this (a mass mail) also asked where the predicted mastermind , the "blue turbaned anti-christ" was.... doesn't seem too much of a coincidence that bin laden was shown wearing a blue turban on the news last night.

I hate to say it, and I know this might come across sounding a bit cold hearted but...

If I were the leader of a faction that planned and executed this, I wouldn't stop now. They've rocked the nation. They're already in deep ****, and already their heads are being screamed for, you can't end up worse than dead really.

I heard a rumour that a car bomb with enough explosive to take out the george washington bridge was caught this morning on it's way there.

I wouldn't be too sure that this is over yet.. not by long shot.

as I said, it sounds cold. It probably is a horrible thing to say, but with all hte attention on what has happened, and with security concentrating on potential targets like the ones hit yesterday, and with the search for the terrorists diverting attentions, I think it would be lax to disregard possible roll on effects and actions against other targets in the US or other nations.

Bomb Squad, FBI, Cops have just stormed the Westin Hotel in Copley (Boston). Someone has been arrested and one person wounded.

Friend of mine told me and it's on the radio now. What's scary is there are tons of muppets standing around watching and others blocking up the freeway (Mass Pike) writing signs "What's up?" to the camera people.

Police Arrest bin Laden Phone Suspects


The National Security Authority has traced two telephone calls to known bin Laden supporters in Boston and Daytona, Florida, where police have arrested a number of suspects in relation to the World Trade Centre tragedy.

They have also impounded a car after The Boston Globe reported police were pursuing at least five suspects.

The suspects were arrested at Westin Hotel in Boston.

Heavily-armed police and FBI agents swarmed the hotel and used fibre-optic equipment to check under doors on the buildings 16th floor.

Police believe some of the terrorists involved in the aircraft hijackings may have stayed in the hotel.

Police cordoned off the area and an armoured vehicle and officers in riot gear arrived. A bomb squad with dogs and ambulances arrived soon after.

Further arrests were also understood to have been made in Florida.
