They have just released the first preliminary casualty counts and they are saying 20,000+ in NYC. Unbelievable. There is no word in the language to describe what happened yesterday.

For decades, the US has been getting involved in all areas of the world. We have sent foreign aid, we have attempted to broker peace deals, we have fought on allies behalves. We have intervened with other countries as well and, of course, in Bin Laden's case, we even trained him ourselves during the cold war!

The point is, what has all this gotten us? Is there more peace in the world? No. Just look at the Macedonia, Somalia, Nothern Ireland, and Israel/Palestine to see that we have failed to bring peace. So what has all this effort done, then? Nothing except that now, the rest of the world hates us. Some are even willing to kill countless thousands.

It is the time to realize that the policy of intervention is a failure. George Washinton warned against it in his final address. Thomas Jefferson was strongly against interventionist policy as well. The peace process in NI is a dimal failure as shown by the recent events there. Palestine...forget it. There will NEVER be peace between Israelis and Palestinians. And Somalia/Sudan? African countries are fighting amongst themsevles as vehemently as they ever have. America needs to worry about itself and let the rest of the world handle its own business. Let Israel, Palestine, Ireland, Macedonia, and all the rest sort it all out themselves. Our best efforts only brought the rest of the world's hatred of us and killed tens of thousands.

America, until the last half century, has been isolationist. We should now realize that we were meant to be that way. behaving any differently will only cause the rest of the world to hate us more.

Someone just sent this to me and I will pass this on as food for thought --
no value comment added, just passing this on. A very unique view --
certainly different from what usually is passed around about
    Americans....... Isegrim

    TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES

This, from a Canadian newspaper, no less, is worth sharing.

    America: The Good Neighbor.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given

recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from

Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television

commentator. What follows is the full text of his

trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional

    Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the

Americans as the most generous and possibly the least

appreciated people on all the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and

Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the

Americans who poured in billions of dollars and

forgave other billions in debts. None of these

countries is today paying even the interest on its

remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it

was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward

was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of

Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United

States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59

American communities were flattened by tornadoes.

    Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped

billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now

newspapers in those countries are writing about the

    decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is

gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar

build its own airplane. Does any other country in the

world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the

Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why

don't they fly them? Why do all the International

lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting

a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese

technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German

technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about

American technocracy, and you find men on the moon -

not once, but several times and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs

right in the store window for everybody to look at.

Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded.

They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless

they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American

dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were

breaking down through age, it was the Americans who

rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the

New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an

old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to

the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me

even one time when someone else raced to the Americans

in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even

    during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one

Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get

kicked around. They will come out of this thing with

their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled

to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating

over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one

    of those."

    Stand proud, America!

I wouldnt be the most pro american in the world (far from it) but even i agree this is one of the greatest tragedies in the world.

*Now Dont get me wrong BUT....*

I think in some sense America did deserve a little push to wake up (NOT A KICK IN THE BALLS like they did get) and notice that the problems in the middle east are at a extreme and in some sense some of it is americas fault. The fanatics took the totally wrong way to try and show the US they believe very much in their country/reliegion etc I mean what has happened has pushed relations back to the stone age. Now i'm hoping the Us doesnt do something the whole world will regret but some action is needed but thought before action.

What interests me is What was the goal for the new york attack? I mean if they are trying to make a point, they just lost it killing 10000's of people, i understood the attack on the pentagon but why the towers i thought if u wanted to blow American confidence the statue of liberty would be a better target? I'm not totally convinced it was bin lanned (or whaever his name was)

Now i know it was a traged but i dont want repeats of past wars.

On the canadian newspaper America did all that to destroy communisiom and perserve its way of life, i.e paranoia. Before 1914 they were very isolationism and even before 1939 they were again, they helped most countries mainly to help themselves, But thats how politics work there is no true aid.
