    Folks

    how are you?

Can i ask a few questions and please be gentle on me....

I am going to set up a business, it will run a few times a year (twice) running courses in Dublin for a 2 weeks at a time. I have a full time job so this will be on my holidays....

I want to do it right wrt tax etc so i want to formalise it...

I will earn if it all works out well about €14k a year from it. so my questions are....

Where do I register as a sole trader

Can i have a business name if i am trading as a sole trader so i dont have to use my own name? ie here

Can my friend who is part qualified accountant do my tax returns for me?

Can i employ a person on an ad hoc basis if i am a sole trader?

anything else i should be thinking off?

please dont baffle me with big words :D many thanks for all answers

    paddy

1:"Where do I register as a sole trader"

You can register with the revenue as a individual\sole trader
    using form STR

2:"Can i have a business name if i am trading as a sole trader so i dont have to use my own name?"

yes, just get the forms and fill them out and then you can trade under the business name.

make sure its not a name like a similar company in the same sector or they could hit
you with a passing off case

3:"Can my friend who is part qualified accountant do my tax returns for me?"

    yes,

you can keep all the tax stuff seperate from your current job tax stuff

4:"Can i employ a person on an ad hoc basis if i am a sole trader?"

    yes,

best way would be to employ the people as contractors who themselves are
    sole traders.
    or
you register for employers prsi\paye, you do this using the form from 1

5:"anything else i should be thinking off?"

    VAT
don't both registering for vat if your turn over is only 14k per year

    Insurance
people might injure themselves and sue you
