what application do people use for PHP??? is it better to use mySQL wit it? and what books would people recommend? thanks

What exactly do you mean by 'use application with php'?

Server software? editing software? database software?

server software - either apache or iis with the php module installed.
editing software - take your pick, notepad, editplus, textedit, homesite, dreamweaver even.
database software - mysql, mssql server, postgre etc.

I've got some books lying around somewhere, I think the O'Reilly ones are pretty good.
