    World Military Shooting Championships

The Army shooting team travelled to Thun Switzerland yesterday to compete at the World Military Shooting Championships.

The team headed up NTSA Chairperson Liam Crawford is assisted by team coach Sean Baldwin. Shooters Ray Kane and Joe O'Donohue will compete at the 300meter standard rifle 3x20 events using 6 BR Norma caliber ammunition.

Ray Kane is no stranger to this event and 3 position shooting is possibly his favourite discipline in the ISSF programme. Ray a national champion in smallbore 3 position in 2003 is accompanied by Joe O'Donohue the 2005 national indoor 25yrd prone champion. Together they should prove good competitors and no doubt much experience they will gain from this level of competition.

The competition is run from 09th October - 16th October. The daily reports and results can be followed at the link listed.

I am sure all our members will join The Committee of the NTSA in wishing the Army shooting team the very best of luck at this years championships.

    "Good Luck and good shooting"

Did anybody else notice that there doesn't appear to be a team from the UK in this?

Qualification for the Mens 300m 3P was held today. Ray Kane came 21st in his group with a 553 and Joe O'Donohoe came 31st in his with a 515. There were three qualification rounds with 36 in each, it seems that 15 go through from each although I'm not 100% sure on this.

What are the details of the comp? Is this a service rifle shoot or an open target shoot for guys in the service with any gear they want?

Have a look at the website. It's very like the olympic event except at 300m

Here are a couple of pictures taken from the first day. As you can see, the equipment is exactly the same as for ISSF rifle shooting, bar the rifles which I think are 7.62mm but have exactly the same aperture sights and stock configurations as the .22. Jackets and other equipment are exactly the same also.

Looking down the rifle at the targets... A long way away!

Looking along the firing point.. All very familiar n'est ce pas?
