Best place to register with Search Engines

For a brand new website, what is the best place to register the site with the search engines so they include it on their crawl list. Is it better to register with the main ones manually one by one, or to do it through one site ? Or is there even any point -ie: will the SE's find it anyway ?

It is definitely worth your time submitting to specialist and regional indices. I always use SelfPromotion as it has a number of helpful options.
Submitting manually to the Irish directories is worth the time and effort:

http://www.browse.ie/
http://www.niceone.com/
http://www.browseireland.com/

If you can get the site into DMOZ it will definitely help, but you may be waiting some time for that
