    Who have a point... In firefox type about:config in the address bar.

    Then do a search for.. image.animation_mode

    Change it to any of the following values.

    normal = Default value. Animated as normal.
    once = Will run through the animation once.
    none = disables animations.

    Doubtful it changes the downloads times though.

    Why you're not yet an SMod is truly beyond me (although it's probably simply because it's not up to me who becomes SMod).

    Hmm, this is listed as a standard (in GUI) option in Mozilla... I don't know why they had to cripple the firefox options like that :/
    All hail about:config though all the same.

    Good call Hobbes.

    For opera users it's a standard Tools, Preferences, Multimedia, untick the GIF animation box.

    Of course like the Firefox equivalent it'll turn off all animated gifs on all sites if that makes any difference to anyone. And it won't change the download times. For IE, I assume the Tools, Options, Advance tab, "play animations in web pages" probably does the same thing.

    ...turn off sigs and avatars...

    or use the minimalist theme.

    I turn off sigs and have the generic icons adblocked.
