Thinkin of getting a couple of tattoos. Just writing, not pic's or images. Is there a site were I could enter the word I want tattooed & look at in different letter styles, fonts etc so I could pick which one I think will suit best?

    Cheers...

well don't know where porn star is today, she's an authority on tatts and piercings! anywho if she were here she would recommend bmezine.com its not exactly what you asked for but there is a section on written tatts

Below is a site where you can place a proposal for a particular style of tattoo and have tattoo artists bid to do design a tattoo for you.

    http://www.tattoodesigner.net/

    Best of luck with it!

    um.
I'm not from Dublin myself, so I couldn't say...
zulu and snakebite seem to be pretty popular.
But some of the others here will be able to reccommend somewhere for you. ;)

Bit like asking someonewhere they can get a pair of shoes and sending them to Arnotts...

What gets to me most is that Shannon Larratt (owner of BME) is trying to run a monopoly with harpies at his side.

    Not really...
it's not me that wants the actualy writing, so I don't actually have the time, to go find direct links..so that's why I say Bme, it's not that hard for the person to go to the site and either do a search or click on the tattoo section...so it's not really anything like asking for shoes and saying go to arnotts
And as far as bme goes, I don't have a problem with it or shannon, think it's a brilliantly run site and everyone involved couldnt be more dedicated if they tried.

Declan, he has quality content, a large user base and updates his photo database regularly, now where exacty can you check the boxes in that list for your own site?

Hey porn star just tryin to put one on ya baby!

BME is a good site for those familiar with body mods. But for neophytes it is probably not the best port of call...know what I mean?

Looks like we have been sucked into the 'biggest is best' mentality here. If I had 10 or so people working for me I'd love to have a site with constant updates. Having two little girls under four years of age can be a drain on time as well!!

It is not the 'be all and and end all' of body mods and tattoos. Again its like recommending a department store to someone. Sure they will find shoes. But most likely they will get unfriendly staff who are overworked and underpaid who have ZERO interest in what they are selling.

It comes down to choice. When I ask where is a good place to get something to eat DON'T tell me McDonalds is good!!

It comes down to personal preference, I suppose.
I don't think the staff are unfriendly and those who work for the site...I honestly, don't think money is *that* big a factor in what they're doing...a lot of them do it for the love of it, etc. People even volunteer cos they wanna help out, cos it's such a busy site.
As far as saying it's good for people familiar with mods..yeah it is...both bme and iam but it's also great for people who aren't overly familiar..it's a great place to learn stuff..it's certainly thought me a few things.
I'm not saying it's the only place...but it's kinda the main place, ya know?!

We'll agree to disagree Declan on that one, I'd more or less reiterate what porn_star said.
To be competitive maybe one needs 10 staff and the time, I dunno.

For those of you that dont know,
Shannon ran BME by himself for the first few years and then his "now" wife Rachael started running more of the business side. This year he hired outside staff to help with the day to day running of the site as to free up some time so he could relax and spend some time with his kid.

This might sound preachy but I have spent alot of time on BME and IAM(nearly since the start) and I have seen the man nearly put himself in hospital from working so hard.

Again I really am not trying to sound like I am sucking Shannons dick,I just have alot of respect for the man and all the work he has done for the scene around the world

Slight thread hi-jacking but can anyone reccomend me a site about japanese tattoing that has the meanings behind all the characters in the pictures and the various symbolisms

    well said.

the site in my opinion has introduced lots of people around the world to the body modification scene. the site has earned the right to be the first port of call for people looking to get good reliable info on body mods

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭dSTAR

Don't get me wrong I have massive respect for what Shannon has done and realise that he has probably done more than any other person on the planet to cover body mods in all its aspects not just tattoos but also scarification, amputations, implants and everything in between.

I have also watched his growth from a small website into what it has become today. He must be worth quite a bit and have many sharks circling around him. As long as BME doesn't go the route of Miami Ink should be all good!

  • Registered Users Posts: 453 ✭✭irishcrazyhorse

The thing is Shannon doesnt need the money from BME,he has been involved from a very young age with the internet and really the only reason why IAM is now pay is because it was been abused.
You can still get memberships by just submitting photos etc....
I wont get into what other types of business he is involved in or was, but some are huge and he comes from a VERY wealthy family!

God I sound like a prat in this thread, but F it anyway

I like BME but i'm afraid I don't particularly like Shannon. He seems to have a bit of a God complex and his conspiracy theorist attitude is quite irritating.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

I don't think he himself has a god complex...I think some people might see him like a God, just 'cos he's done so much..but I don't think it's something he wants...
But on the whole, I think people just respect him a lot...and he deserves it, cos he's put a lot of work into what he does.

i think what greenhorn was looking for was something like this --> www.abstractfonts.com
you can enter whatever words you want in different fonts and view them. you can even print them out. i was searching for something like that bout a month ago for my tattoo too.
