Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Shrinking XP Install CD

    Hi all,

I'm wondering are there any files/folders that can be deleted from an XP install CD to make the total size smaller?

For eg, do I need the 98, ME, WinNt upgrade/migration folders. I also wish to slipstream SP2 into it as well. My final aim is to place all the install files onto a folder for remote installation over a network, so if I could shrink down the total file size of the install folder I would be happy.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks you.

All you need is the i386 folder.

Slipstream it with SP2 and you are done.

    thx Howard,

But is there a way of shrinking down the i386 folder itself, or do I need all the files and folders in it, even if I am not upgrading from 98, ME, WinNt etc.

humaxf1, why would you go to such lengths to save 37.7MB? I'd say that you could remove them, but when if you slipstream SP2, it's likely to either look for them, or put them back. If you are storing it on a network the extra folders within i386 shouldn't be cause for any concern.

Thing is 600MB +/- shouldn't take too long to pull across a 10/100 network, so why put in all the work?

Try Nlite for custom slipstreamed windows install CD's ... you can even embed the serials for unattended install CD's with all the XP junk taken out..

I think i managed to get mine down to about 350 megs total size as far as i know you can install custom applications with it too .. e.g. firefox installed by default
