Just had a quick go of the japanese version of this game. First lets get this out of the way, it is unfortunately nowhere near as good as the godly Gunstar Heroes. However it is a fantastic game in it's own right. It's probably one of the best looking 2D games ever created with tonnes of transparency and rotation/scalling effects. You could swear you were playing a saturn or Neo Geo game. The blasting action is frantic, gameplay just like the original, is extremely varied and the bosses and gigantic. Only problem is that it seems a little bit easy.
