I'm trying to source a set of selaed beams for the KE30, and my Toyota dealer at home says he cannot get them anymore. Has anyone had any luck sourcing them outside the republic, or know anyone here that might have a set? I've sent off a couple of e-mails yesterday evening to some companies I've came accross. At the moment, two torches would give a better light  Any pointers would be appreciated :)

    Hi,

A lot of British cars used sealed beams, so any given specialist in the UK can probably help if you can't find anything locally (as long as you can match up the sizes). The Spitfire sealed beams are 18 cm in diameter, if that's any help. There are halogen conversion kits available also which might make life easier in the long run. If that's a match then James Paddock (http://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/) are among the cheapest for Triumph parts.

From what I've heard about halogen conversions, the only ones worth buying are the more expensive branded ones.

You could try Parts For Older Cars (http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/parts_for_older_cars.html) and see if they can help or maybe suggest a good source.

    Hope this helps!

Jason the more common sealed beam sizes are the 5 3/4 inch Capri&69mustang or the 7inch mini&pre 69mustang size.Which can be got at many good auto factors. What size are yours lamps.

Sealed beam units are manufactured by a company called Ring, and are available from most Motor Factors. The part no. for the 7" is R7014. There are also replacements which are sold in pairs which will take a halogen bulb, the part no. for these is RL080. 5 3/4 sealed beam units are also available in 2 or 3 pin.
You should be able to get them without too many problems.

Thanks for the advice guys, will follow all of the leads. Gonna try an old type place up at Marley Park tonight. Especially from now on when the evenings are cutting off, I want to be able to see more than five metres ahead without getting out and checking the road ahead;) I cannot be the only person with this problem!!

Jason, try phoning Autocare in Dundrum, 01-2605530. If they don't have stock I KNOW they can have them within a few hours!

So am I correctly in presuming that you drive the K30 everyday Jason_G_KE30 ?

If so I reckon you must be the only person in Ireland doing so !

Thanks alanlouthzzr, I actually was speaking to another Motor Shop, and they recommended them also, so will try them later, unfortunately work comest first:)

Unfortunately Silvera, I have classic ins on the corolla, and so have a run of the mill car for during the week, and try then to use the KE30 as much as possible over the weekend. The fella we seen at the Fingal show with the red SR coupe, now he uses it everyday, because I'm often behin him on the way up the Blanch dual carrageway. He doesn't hang about either!!

I just find that if you are out anytime round the dusk hours, its just impossible, and more of a danger being out especially on our narrow hedged roads. I'd feel a lot safer being lit up properly. Not much to ask to see where you're going is it?:D

Spoke to Auto Care, and they're able to get a set of RING Halogen conversions for €42 per set plus VAT, so they'll have them for me at 11:30 in the morning!!

Is it worth stocking up do you think?

    Thanks all for your help!

    Jason:)

Jason, probably no need to stock up. There is still some demand for the conversion units and I don't think Ring will stop making them for a while yet!
    Glad you got sorted.
    Alan.
