Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Domain Resolving Problem

I recently moved a site from one host to another. For some bizarre reason my antique work PC running win2k (up to date) has decided not to open the www. site and automatically contacts the old host and therefore gets a wrong page.
However, if I omit the www. portion and just enter the domain name it loads fine. The same applies to opening any file from the site.

This occurs in MSIE 6, FF, and also in cmd. If I ping or tracert it I get the old IP. The only positive thing Im getting is if use nslookup as below.

    Any ideas?
    C:>nslookup www.kbannon.com
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.1.254: Non-existent domain
*** Default servers are not available
    Server: UnKnown
    Address: 192.168.1.254

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: www.kbannon.com
    Address: 216.235.153.14

EDIT: Sorry, that's probably your router.

Who's your upstream? Have you got dig on the machine? If not, install it and run:

    dig @ROUTER hostname
    dig @UPSTREAMNAMESERVER hostname

Then post the results. Possibly you can do this with nslookup, I don't use it any more.

The PC is connected to a simple LAN. The €ircon Netopia modem is hooked up to the same hub. The domain opens fine on all other PCs in the network.
I also had my PC connected to a different network last night and again only it gave the prob.
    Weird!

[before anyone asks, the cache, etc for the two browsers was cleared many times!]

Delete it, close and restart your browser. Does it ring any bells? I doubt a hijacker would add arbitrary hostnames in there, so it was probably either added manually or by something you installed. Webserver perhaps?

(If you're still having trouble after you delete it, flushdns again.)
