Advice on Purchasing a mic

I started using skype recently. I think its excellent but i think it could be even better considering im using a built in mic in the laptop. So i wanna buy a mic but i have no idea which one to get. I was thinking of getting a pair of headphones with a built on mic or would i be better off just getting a mic on its own...…

the cheaper the price the better but at the same time ok quality.
