    I also have planned
    - Blue ignition leads
    - Braided brake lines
    - Meshed grille

in very near future. As soon as possible, really... don't really have that much money right now though. :/

Get rid of drums, go discs upgrade or paint drums black.

Mesh grille would give you instant membership to TDI meshtuning club. ;)

Seconded. You want the drums to disappear rather than highlight how small and sh!tty they are :p

That upgrade would cost a fair bit. And major overkill for a 1.3 colt in my opinion.

If he has any sense he'll fit a 1.6 MIVEC engine!

The chap already said he has feck all money to do what he wants so far and you're saying he has no sense unless he MIVEC's the fooken thing?! :pac:

I couldn't give a bollocks, it's a lot easier to tell someone else to spend money than when it's me.
I'd rather the 175bhp over the blue hubs, regardless of cost. :pac:

It would work out cheaper to sell the colt and buy a mivec, rather than upgrading engine and brakes.

It would more of a headache than fun to be changing the engine Imo.

It's not going to be a straight swap. You will have to change a whole host of stuff, not to mention the paperwork and engineers report etc.

It would be much better to buy a genuine mivec Imo.

175bhp rear drums and tiny front disc's plus a clutch that will snap like a kit kat :P

    Sounds fun

All afraid of a little hardwork. :p
I never said it's an easy job but the fun of it isn't about being easy. It's about taking a car apart and putting it back together with better parts.
Anyone can buy a car, it's a nicer idea to think you've made yours yourself.

A nicer idea maybe but not a very practical one when you factor in the hassle and the cost. It also won't be worth nearly as much as a proper mivec and it could possibly be more expensive to insure than a proper mivec as well due to it being a conversion. :)

As I said, it's not about being cost effective or easy.
Keep up there, Johnboy, or read up. ;)

    Easy said, hard done.

For what ? A car that needs to be stripped down and have its whole drivetrain/suspension and brakes redone (will cost about 4 times what the car was originally worth.

+ At the end of the day its still not a genuine car.

Yes but as I've said about three times now, it's for the fun of building it yourself.
Why didn't you just buy an ST with pipes, a bigger turbo, bigger intercooler, map and everything done already?
    Or an RS?

We like putting things together, if that means taking bits from an old, broken MIVEC colt and breathing new life into a lesser version in decent shape then what's wrong with that?

I have no interest in resale value or what anyone else thinks about the outcome of a project. It's purely a personal thing. A hobby, like anything else.

Jesus, I'd expect such resistance on the likes of After Hours but on a motors forum?

maybe because you are talking nonsense and cant admit to this?

Modifying a car is always a losing game, i must be 3k in sofar with 2k to go handy.

It's all down to personal taste really and it not only reduces the cars value but it makes the car harder to sell/insure.

I didn't fit any of the bigger bits to my car simply because i dont have the shed/tools to do it so i got it done elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong i would love to but such is life.
