The Department is following ComReg down the bunny hole.

    * "Centre of excellence for advance technology trials." We better keep schtum about those, shall we?
ROFL. They said a lot of silly things in that presentation, but that one's just asking for trouble.

It's a pity we don't have a home-grown Jon Stewart, he'd make mincemeat of that statement. But then the Government would have someone to be answerable to rather than a pathetically weak opposition, and probably wouldn't even exist any more.

Jesus what a pile a steaming horse****, how can they keep a serious face when presenting/making these obviously false reports. I just cannot believe it.

In the context of the DCMNR daydreaming, enn writes about an Indo article:
The same paper reports that new EU member states have overtaken Ireland's broadband connectivity levels, according to the OECD's Science, Technology and Industry Scoreboard 2005 -- a survey which ranked Ireland country 19th out of 22 countries. Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary now have more households with fast internet access than Ireland, which has penetration at about 5 percent and is the fourth-worst performer in the league table. The only other countries featuring lower for the period from 2000 to 2004 were Mexico, Turkey and Greece.

edit: Looking up that latest OECD table shows that no change has taken place in terms of Broadband penetration (as always measured as "number of broadband connections per 100 inhabitants"). Czech Republic and Poland are still a few lengths behind. Hungary is still slightly in front. They have more numbers in absolute terms, but that is not a correct way to compare.

I begin to wonder about their objectives... I always thought that their purpose was to keep cosy relationships with eircom while consumers' remain outraged and almost impotent trying to get a basic broadband connnection.

Now they seek to make asses out of themselves in front of people who do more get a cheque off the government for doing SFA imo.

    This is a low.
