External oil boiler has been working fine up to last night - it just started to get noisey.

It sounds like the normal noise got amplified !!!??

Could this be down to a partily blocked jet or the elctrodes are dirty ?

Any other reason for this. Will service at the weekend but would like to know if any of you have seen the same,

    thx :D

it could be a few factors....

do your service first and see if it makes any improvement...make sure when you put the burner back in that it is completely sealed and if it is one of those burners with a box cover over it, also make sure that is closed up tight.

This has happened to me a few times and it can be something as small as something rubbing like the oil feed pipe off the internal box up to the bearing in the motor starting to get noisey.

If it is the normal noise, but louder, it is likely that there is a build up of carbon on the diffuser head where the flame is formed. It could be upsetting the shape of the flame.
If your flue outlet is at the back of the boiler, make sure that the pipe has not become disconnected or fallen off. Or that a cleaning door has not fallen off. This will also give a loud droning noise.
If the shape of the flame looks anyway dodgy, a new nozzle is a good idea.
A worn bearing will make a loud noise, but you should be able to tell if it is this because the noise will be there when you switch on the burner before the flame ignites.
If you have an old boiler and you are servicing it yourself, wear a mask, there are asbestos gaskets in most old boilers (and even the flue).
    Jim.
