Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not sure if this is the correct forum buy anyhow, here goes.
I am planning on using my laptop with a hercules dj console to play some
private functions now and again but am not sure what speakers system to
get and how powerful they needs to be. This would range from private
parties to weddings etc. Any advice on where to buy in Dublin would also
    be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, the hercules dj console connects to the usb of the laptop and
has a decent sound card in it and allows you to cue songs and all that.
Maplins have a deal with prosound speakers, amp and cables for 180 euro.
Would they be a reliable brand and provide enough power?

Sounds like they're nothing more than glorified household speakers, you know, for bedroom DJing...

Yeah you'll get more replies here than you will in the laptop forum.

This could probably do small function rooms...barely

Tis about as cheap as you'll get for a "proper" PA system.

For what it's worth, I got a Hercules DJ console and was extremely dissapointed with the quality of the audio from it's built in soundcard. Also, the controls were not instant with the software I use, OtsDJ. Sometimes there was no response at all from the Hercules console, which is no good when DJing live.

I now use the Echo Indigo DJ card, which I've found to be superior to any of the USB soundcards I've tried. For control, I use shortcut keys, the mouse, and use an external mixer to control the mic/music balance.

Regarding the PA system, how much are you prepared to spend? I would guess that a €200 PA system will sound exactly like a €200 PA system. I do weddings of up to about 250 guests with a €5000 PA system and it sounds superb. Your sound will only be as good as the weakest link in your system, there's no point having great software and soundcard playing through a crappy sound system. What software are you planning to use anyway?

I've got the Hercules DJ Console and I find it excellent. I use it with Virtual DJ - I found all the other programs crap. There is a minute delay but you get used to it very quickly. Sound quality is great as long as your MP3's are encoded in a high enough bitrate.

I don't have a PA system but I've done a few house parties with my Altec Lacing ADA995 speakers. Perfect for a small room but you'd need a proper system for anything bigger.
