who is better?

let's all just forget the whole sub-genre rock thing. all complications aside, who do you think is better, metallica or the red hot chili peppers? personally, i think the chilis rock. metallica are ok, they are great live, admittedly better that the chilis live, but not by much, but who is better all round?
