think this course leaves you with alot of different skills but not much specilist skills, i.e. the ind eng dept send there students on a lot of menial courses in other departments (eg. behavourial pychology!) to save their work load and you end up with an esentially wishy washy degree, TBH its probaly still better than there elect eng (and generics) courses which are a complete sham which learned for myself (the most lazy staff arrangement in a formal education institution ive ever heard of:mad: ), TBH and i dont mean to offend anyone here but galway isnt a place for getting a decent education in any discipline, if you want a proper learning expereince (and lecturers who know what there on about (cloud didnt lecture me) ) go to dublin (ucd, trinners, dcu) or cork (ucc) or for some courses,
Nuig alumni, and not proud of it,

Yo've just single-handedly made me the most unsure person on earth, But thanks really, i didnt know that. Are all the Galway Engineering degrees that bad? One of my teachers tells me that its better to do engineering in Galway or Limerick, because of the work placement??

What type of engineering would you recomend? Or even better if you were to recomend one engineering degree out all available in Ireland, which would you pick?

and you did how many different degrees in how many different departments?

The engineering faculty in NUIG is well respected in this country. As is the rest of the college.

It's near impossible to say anything for sure about a particular course, it'll be a different experience for everyone who did it. Someone will say one thing about a course and someone else will counter the argument and so it goes.

As for choosing your particular type of engineering, you'd want to have a bit of interest in the area if you're going into a course that is one particular type of engineering from the start e.g. Mechanical, Electronic, Civil etc. If you weren't sure then maybe one of the undenominated entry course's that allow you to choose half way through what to specialise in might be a better option. Engineering courses are heavy going and an interest in what you're doing really helps to get you through it.

If it's any use I've experience of NUIG, WIT & now doing the degree in Mechanical Engineering in U.L. so if there's any question you might think I could be of help with just ask or PM me.
I remember what it was like trying to choose after the leaving and the lack of information out there on these things didn't help me any either.

Well one detail that is current at the moment is that there is plenty of work for industrial engineers. 15 years ago there was a glut but now there is a shortage especially bodies with experience.

Don't tie yourself down to one course or college in your choices as there are many different ways to get your degree and despite what the snobs say its not where you do your degree, its how good you are at your job later on that counts.
