    can anybody help?

i fired up the engine- a 6.2 litre v8 diesel- that had not been started for 3 years. it fired first turn and ticked over (after priming the diesel and giving the plugs a good heat) but it was knocking like hell. i removed it from the car and took the sump off and found the crank was broken d'oh. i dont know how it started!
does any body know anything about these engines or know where i could get a crankshaft?
would be greatfull for any help.

I'm presuming from a quick google you are referring to something from a GM pickup or something...

You could presumably get one made, but I'd hate to think of the cost. They seem like an engine that have been around for years, although I wouldnt imagine too many of them found there way over here. Perhaps you could source one online; or maybe bring an extra large suitcase the next time you visit the US :)

yes its a gmc engine usually found in american pick-ups and vans but people usually retro fit them to range rovers but this one is fitted into a jaguar. i bought it unseen to put it in to my jag and run it on veg oil( the jaguar two fuel tanks and switch on the dash makes it ideal). the engine itself are ment to be really smooth- this one def is not.
i could pos import from the usa but i"m sick of large shipping costs(imagine the weight of a v8 crankshaft) and the imprt duty that customs charge here.

get them to mark it as gift- of no commercial value:D

i tried that before, the seller of the item ticked it as gift but he insured it at the price i paid for it ($600), the customs took the insured value and charged vat on it @21% then added the shipping cost to the total item plus vat cost and charged some kind of tax on that. or something to that affect but i ended up having to pay 140 euro extra and had to pick it up from the depot, they didnt even deliver it to my door. slightly of the topic but you can see why i am against buying from the usa, once bitten and all that jazz.

140 isnt alot anyway, if u want to run a 6.2 v8 then u will have to pay the piper, otherwise just buy a normal car.
i c people who buy sports cars often have servicing bills of 2500+, its the same story, ur never going to run a porsche on haypennies.
can always try to get them to mark it gift and register it, and not to insure it. thats the key really to buying things vat free. ive imported over 4 grand of stuff recently and only got done on 1 thing of 20 from the states where the guy insured it.

The UK has a pretty big cottage car industry aimed at those crazy people who love Amercian cars so it may be worth a google for UK specialists.

these people might be worth e-mailing for a contact.

cheers mike65, i'll check them out. the only reason i bought the engine is because they are a good cheap engine with good fuel economy, for the size of the engine, 25-30 mpg. easily getting 500 thousand miles if looked after.
