    Hi all,

I currently have a 256Mb Gainward GeForce FX 5600 that's beginning to feel it's age. So, having read PC Gamer's last article about systems upgrades, I've decided to get a nVidia 6600 GT. However, there are a few different flavours of this card out there, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what's so different about these cards that I'm considering (yes, I'm holding out for a full system upgrade until some time late next year):

    The Club3D version:

    And...

    The Gainward version

So, in layman's terms, which is better, and why?

Thanks for any info ye can offer.

I don't know very much, but your current card is 256, and both of the ones you're considering are 128....this confuses me...

The amount of video memory has (usually) very little to do with how faster a video card is. Why is a 6 litre truck not faster than a 2 litre car?

On these cards you should check is the memory of the same type? GDDR3 SDRAM 128-bit. yes it is. Is the memory the same speed? What speed is the GPU (graphics processing unit)? Thats probably where the difference is.

My first impression is that theres not much difference between them. However if you do some searching for reviews on the web where they compare 6600GT cards against one another, then you'll find out what the differences are and what to look for. For example here. http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q1/6600gt-agp-comparo/index.x?pg=2Usually the differences are only worthwhile if you are going to overclock the cards. Personally I'd be looking which had the best warranty aswell.

Though if I were you I'd jump to a better card. 6800GT or X850 etc. The 6600GT are a bit better than a 9800pro. But as you can get a 9800Pro 2nd hand for about €100 the 6600GT isn't a bargain. But it comes down to your budget I guess.

Thanks Ricardo. I'll have to investigate just how flexible the budget is. ;)
