OK , this is a LONG shot (but it just might work....)
Cast your mind back to the World cup in france. The BBC used a piece of Classical music for thier footie programme intro. I think it got a brief release as a single, it was also performed on Sports Personality of the year that year. It also turned up as a sample in a recent S Club 7 song (no idea what it was called, video was them on a beach - its the strings melody in the chorus)

So how vague is all that? Can anyone help?

Like the S Club 7 reference, helped me remember what it was.

    It's Gabriel Faure's "Pavane"

The S Club 7 song is "Natural", adapted for the most part from "Les Maux D'Amour" written by Norma Ray and Jean Fredenucci but it does have a sample of the Faure tune.

If you're looking to buy the tune, your best bet is probably the version by Academy of St Martin in the Fields Orchestra and Chorus/Neville Marriner (just a guess as I don't have a copy of the tune but they do a good rendition of Peer Gynt and Pachabel's Canon)

Or the BBC recording was by the Wimbledon Choral (probably available from Amazon or similar on single.
