Telecom considering offering lowest Net rates in Europe

"Telecom Eireann is proposing to offer 100 hours of Internet access for 20 punt, according to Telecom's Helen Stanton, who revealed the figure during a talk to the European Institute on Monday.
The so-called "flat-rate" Internet service package is under consideration by Telecommunications Regulator, Ms Etain Doyle, Telecom has promised to implement the rate immediately if it gains approval.
    ...
The new flat rate service, which originally was to be introduced in January, is designed to benefit moderate to heavy Internet users and encourage all Net users to stay online longer. It would prove more cost effective than Telecom's current offering if users are online more than an hour a day at peak hours or two hours in the evening or weekends. Internet users must still pay ISPs for an account -- usually about 12 punt a month -- in addition to phone charges."

Was that not one of those that Eircom gave the "Nobody seems to be interested in it, according to our surveys" answer?

£32 for a 100 hour NoLimits compared to £20 for a 75 hour NoLimits. Not great. Could this have been why Esat launched NoLimits: Eircom making noises about something resembling FRIACO?

Reading articles from 98/99 is so depressing. We seemed to have it all figured out then. Where did it all go wrong?

Where do they get these sort of headlines from? It's nowhere near the lowest rates in Europe.

Kinda like the interconnection fees, out of the 6(something like that) eu state to still depend on interconnection fees ireland is the lowest priced.

They don't say "evening flat-rate" do they? (I certainly can't see it in the article above)

Pete, it's too late and I'm too tired after wading through 100s of posts to catch hidden nuances and dates ;)
