hey i just typed in traccert in google and it tells you

But im not sure what i should be checking for?
I have got packet loss on a few ip address's

I think the cause could be my broadband line

it should explain that it sends a packet to a destination and traces its route (Tracert ..traceroute..) ..
anyway: does this happen with many sites?
    what hardware are you using?
    who is your ISP?

Im using a wireless router and my isp is eircom.

Why ruin a tracert for packet loss? It still doesn't tell me why im was geting packet loss

    actually it can tell you.

If packetloss is before the first hop on the traceroute. Then its possibly your equipment. If packetloss occurs between your first hop, and the hop where it leaves your ISP's internal network, its your ISP's fault. If it occurs after your ISP's internal network, then its the fault of someone else.

    i couldn't have put it better (Which is why i didn't :p)
it basically traces the route from your pc -> router -> ISP -> the Internet -> Destination
and from here it tells you at what part of this route packets are being dropped ( * * * <-look familiar?)
now, read M.F.'s post as it explains what it means re: where it drops..
