    Hi guys,

In the thread about Cyrona closing down the hosting for IrelandOffline, I'd just offered to host www.irelandoffline.com here on boards. The thread has just been deleted, so I don't know if you guys saw the offer.

Anyway, if you want this to go ahead, cloud can point www.irelandoffline.com to here, and I'll setup an ftp account for whoever requires it. We could also offer some SQL hosting, but not a great deal.

Let myself or tom know if you are interested!

    Dan aka Regi

    Very kind of you Dan.

Not sure yet if I'm going to be able to take you up on it... had a very nice offer from a hosting company based in Dublin, - was actually supposed to install the site on their server today, but they haven't gotten back to me with the map to their office, etc. that they'd promised... so I dunno.

Will your hosting include ASP support?

Well - the deal is done, and IrelandOffline's web site will be BACK on-line SOON... with thanks to Regi, Cloud, and everyone in Boards.ie - who are now to be our benevolent hosts.

    Thanks guys,

well, we've a vested interest in seeing Ireland get decent telecoms!

I'll let dan work out the details (he's much better at that then me ;) )

I dunno about the streaming media stuff, we'll have to check the impact on bandwidth, but other stuff should be ok.

Any idea why the Cyrona site went offline?

    DeV.

ps: <rant> this is why having a self-funded community unconnected with a corporate entity and/or squimish investors is important. Noone can pressure us to cut content etc. We've a report of Eircom having banned Boards.ie from access by its workers... still trying to find out what thats about... <rant>

Well surely that's a sign they're taking this community seriously isnt it? :)

because 1) They didn't realise they were hosting the site through scaryeire.com and 2) They apparently were subjected to DOS attacks

    both correct... but also:

    3) some of the code in the IOFFL site is copyright Cyrona Software. This will be rectified before the site is relaunched.

    --

btw: for DeVore - as for streaming media, - this shouldn't be an issue for Boards.ie/Spin - as the media files will all be located on a seperate server (as kindly provided by dahamsta), so not affecting your bandwidth.

I spoke to Dan/Regi about that.

    Ok Bard, thats cool then.

Cant imagine who would want to DDOS IOFFL, still the same person probably has issues with Boards.ie and I'm not in the habit of being scared off. The fraud squad are still gathering data on the last two guys to try.

Well, now you have 10mb line and a dedicated server (albeit also running Boards.ie :) ) at your disposal :)

<thought> Isnt it ironic that IOFFL have to be hosted on an American server to get 10mbps bandwidth :) </thought>

I can not image who would want to launch a DDoS attack against irelandoffline.com -- possibly someone who, for some reason, doesn't want Ireland to have affordable unmetered Internet access!?

I'd just like to reaffirm my previous statement that I would be happy to host any files for IrelandOffline, so email me on uw@avara.net if you ever need disk space and bandwidth for large files (my provider has 510mbps of bandwidth, of which only a few percent is being used, and my server has dual 100mbps ethernet to that bandwidth).

I hope that IrelandOffline will be back online soon.

Understandably, I think, I'm not in the habit of publicly speculating on those matters. It only invites trouble.

I'm just glad that it doesn't worry DeV, now that the site is to share a server with Boards.ie

Your offer is appreciated Urban,- I may call on your assistance yet!

    ASAP!!! I promise!

As soon as I edit out anything 'copyright' from the code, it'll be lumped onto the new server. Assuming all DNS settings are correct and everything is dunky horey, it'll then be back on-line (with even more news & info on it to boot). Need to confirm some details with Regi/Cloud yet.

Finding time to make the necessary edits to the site and get it uploaded is not easy, but I'll do my best. It'll be back online - at best - within the next 3-4 days.

BTW, I intend to write a brief news article for the site explaining the outage and announcing that we were hit (at least once) by a DoS attack. Also, when it's back up, the site will feature a "sponsored/hosted by Boards.ie" message somewhere, although what form this will take I'm not sure yet...

To those who think that our web site being down indicates that IrelandOffline has shut down, you couldn't be any more wrong. This may be a bit of a relatively quiet time in our operations but despite the general mood, despite the despicable customer relations and shoddy products from certain companies, and despite the unwarranted and illegal ATTACKS on our organisation (the Denial of Service attacks), this campaign is not over by a long shot and we sure as hell haven't given up yet.

Oh, it concerns me, dont mistake that, its just that I'm a reactionary stubborn bastard who doesntlike to be told what I can and cant do :)

Besides, so far its Muppets: 0 Devore: lots
and even the people who DDOSed us and think they got away with it.... didnt :)

Good luck with the new site, Regi is away on monday but I'm sure cloud and I can help.

    DeV.

The fact stands though Dev, if some scripty wants to DOS you and has some skill, you can do nothing but hide under cisco for a while but the boards would be unusable, and as for making them pay, thats unlikely.
    :)
    fingers crossed.

So is it true, Eircom have stopped employees browsing boards.ie?
does that include irelandoffline.com?[well it does now, but before the boards said "sure we will host ya"]

    DeV.

I presume this means the relevant authorities are involved (ie an Garda Siochana) ??

Its still a very grey area in Irish Law given the lack of legislation and most of the time these ppl get away w/ it.

Maybe someone should contact Denis Kelleher of the Irish Times(he writes in the Computimes on a monday) and is the AFAIK the only practicing barrister in Ireland specialising in IT law. Perhaps he could raise the issue in his column-
ie- that such worthy websites as IOffline & boards have been attacked by these senseless, envious, mindless MUPPETS.

    Gluck DeV. in tracking them:)

I think you have all missed a very important here.
Niall O'Keffe hosted the ireland offline website WITHOUT contacting Cyrona who at the time were hosting scaryeire. According to ian brennan's post, which was hastily removed, this was done as a personal favour to Niall. This is a form of cyber squatting and does Ireland Offline no good what so ever.

It's good, though, that others are coming forward with offers to help IrelandOffline with hosting.

Despite your ill-advised post from your position of "sitting on the fence", the matter is long since closed... and no, we didn't miss the so-called "important point" that you are pointing out.

Ian Brennan's post was removed and the thread was deleted AT HIS REQUEST - it wasn't "hastily removed". It would have stayed there except for the fact that he REQUESTED that it be removed and stated that he had over-reacted concerning the matter.

Some people take any opportunity possible to dive in with a flame. The fact that the site is down is what has done the damage, - not necessarily the reasons behind it.

As I said already, the site will be back up as soon as possible and no sooner. This matter is closed as far as the relevant parties (myself and Cyrona) are concerned and there's no need to drag it out any further.
