True story...

Good 'ol Capt'n Midnight may remember this one.

I was reminded recently of a time when I worked in tech support and like everyone else, didn't know a whole lot about NT4. Training was minimal back then and you were just thrown on the phones because of the queue of calls 45+ deep.

Some poor man was getting the NT4 blue screen of death and knew more about the problem than we did. One tech asked him to write down exactly what information was on the blue screen and he did. It took him 2 hours and he filled 4 foolscap pages with just memory addresses and file names.

Unfortunately for him, he got through to Mr. Format Reinstall when he called back saying he had sent the fax. Mr. Format Reinstall told him without any hesitation to format his hard disk and reinstall NT4 and the problem would go away... after writing out a full memory dump.

Even the lack of knowledge was power back then.

We had a guy working in our department who had a nickname of Mr Fixit ..... because he couldnt. He had a (supposed to be) hidden stash of LOADS of parts he could not/did not fix.
