Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

XP hangs on startup screen after restore

    Hi All,

    I restored my entire C drive (with XP installed) from a backup which I made using Dantz Retrospect HD (software that came with a Maxtor OneTouch II external hard drive). When booting XP and it gets to the blue start up screen (see screen shot attached) just before log on it hangs. Well it is not exactly hung cos the mouse still works but it just stays on that screen. Any ideas?

    What have you tried to fix it?

    Will the machine boot into safe mode? (not sure how try http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml)

    Tried booting into safe mode, still stops at the same point. Haven't tried anything else except for restoring again but no joy.

    It looks like a corrupt profile. Log on as administrator and try that.

    The built-in Administrator account is hidden from Welcome Screen when a user account with Administrator privileges exists and enabled. In Windows XP Home Edition, you can login as built-in Administrator in Safe Mode only. For XP Professional, press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice at the Welcome Screen and input your Administrator password in the classic logon window that appears.

    Hmm, when the welcome screen apprars there is usually an icon for the Administrator account, that is the only one I ever log on with. Pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL at welcome screen doesn't do anything.

    I just tried using the repair installation feature from the XP cd. After repair was complete I was able to log on but it looks dodgy, there are icons missing for files (such as xls, mov) and office doesn't seem to be working.
