Strange phone callers

Over the last couple of days, I've had a few calls from strange, apparently international, phone numbers. One, which has called quite a few times, was 00800******* - the other, which called once was 00972*******(I'm blocking the 7-digit number on the off chance that they're genuine). When we answer, there is no response at…

Over the last couple of days, I've had a few calls from strange, apparently international, phone numbers. One, which has called quite a few times, was 00800******* - the other, which called once was 00972*******(I'm blocking the 7-digit number on the off chance that they're genuine). When we answer, there is no response at the other end and after a few seconds it cuts off. It seems very strange to me, as if it is an autodialler polling random numbers for some reason. Anyone else experience the same thing? Any ideas of how to stop it?
