Haven't a clue to be honest with you...I've never left mine out for long periods of time, but just cos I've never needed to....
I know a girl in work and she's had her's done just under a year and can leave it out for a few days without it closing up...
and I know it was the same for my brother...but he'd has his done for absolutly years...
Gonna be different for everyone though.
But I'd imagine you could leave it out for a while anyway.....

how long do you need to leave it out for?

well i was just wondering cause i have my lip done 3 times, and the the bar on the one on the right is uncomfortable. i tried swapping around the bars to see which bar was more comfortable, but i need a shorter bar. i wanted 2 take it out for a while and give my mouth a little relief. do you think it would last at least 24 hours?

Honestly, I couldn't say...everyone is different, when it comes to stuff like this.It could last, but when you're putting it back in, it might be a little tight too and if it's already uncomfortable, you don't want to piss it off more..
I've got a vertical labret myself, so it's not entirely the same thing and I find that if I leave it out for a while like (about 15 minutes) it gets kinda tight when I'm putting it back in, but I think mine is due to the placement too...
I'd imagine it would last for a relatively long time alright and I don't think within 24 hours it would close up completely anyways.
But if it's the size of the bar that's annoying you, you could always go into a piercing shop or something and they'll get you on that fits better ;)

    No problem.
If you're still thinking of leaving it out for a while, a friend of mine that I work with just put his back in yesterday, with no problems and he'd left it out for the last 6 months..he had it done for a year previously.
so mightn't be that hard to keep open afterall ;)

    really good actually.
The first couple of days were a bit of a struggle...but not from pain, just cos I had to carefully place things in my mouth and I was constantly drolling!! :o
But, it was fine, no problems at all and really quick.
The piercing itself was fine,it just stung a little bit.
But it healed in a couple of weeks and after the first week or so, it felt like it had been there forever ;)

I've had my lip pierced for nearly 4 years now. Since I started working where I am now I'm not allowed to have it in so I'd just leave it out for the week and put it in at weekends. Never have any problem with it closing up.
