    GSM Frequency Bands
    These are 900, 1800 and 1900MHz. Meteor operates on 900 and 1800mhz.

Actually Meteor only operate on 1800MHz, they don't have a licence to use the 900MHz band.

1900MHz is not used in Europe... mostly America and possibly Asia.

I have seen a few Meteor GSM 900 masts so they must be using both frequencies.

Is it possable to get a licence to use 1900 for GSM in Ireland??
If so then it could be used for an Irish "coffee GSM" service like in the UK

GSM 900Mhz signal has a much wider coverage area - and therefore is used in rural areas - than GSM 1800Mhz - which predominates in built-up towns and cities.

I think all 3 of the big networks use both frequencies

There was a problem with some older handsets like the 5100, i cant remeber which frequecy is which, but it only worked off 1 frequency and it wouldnt work in the city centre due to the fact that meteor runs of two differant frequencys. One for more built up area's and one for the suburbs. So it defenatly uses two, but ive know idea which is which.

Edit\but if you look above this post you will find out
