Does anyone know where to go to get a good deal on a new BMW X5 commercial? I've seen a few advertised on CBG. and carzone or would it be better to import one? The main dealer has told me that BMW aren't in the commercial vehicle business ( arrogant bastards!) Has anyone got one and how good are they? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi,
as far as i know the best way to go at this is to import one from the UK oe the north, but when it comes to the day when your bringing it down to your VRT office have the rear seats,belts,etc.. out with the glass very tinted,I know people that have done this with other jeeps,
Lets see if anyone else knows first......

What happens is there car is bought in england brought over here and converted. This involes false floors replacing windows removing seats. Then you only pay the €50 VRT. Otherwise you pay 30% of the guide price here, not what you paid for it in england.

There's no problem converting one in Ireland, I can convert it myself. I want to know where I can get the best price on one before I register it in Ireland as once it's converted it's a commercial so its cheap VRT then any way.

Why do people on boards always start making things more complicated than they really are. All this talk of buying it in the UK, just to get it converted over there. You can convert any jeep to a commercial/passenger here in Ireland. Its not ecactly rocket science, he doesnt need to hire commercial converting specialists in from the UK

    Back to original question:
Im not sure where you`d get the best price, but if you fone a crowd called "Grannard". I think thats how its spelt, there a crowd based down the country somewhere, i was there before but forget where exactly. Anyway they specialie in jeeps passenger and commercial and will convert vehicles for you before buying. My relatives bought landcruisers off them few times. They do have an add in the autotrader sometimes. Ill ask me dad later for the correct name and location of them, but they really are big. They had well over a million Euros worth of stock in jeeps the time i was there.

They can also get the Toyota Hillux crew cab in with the 3.0L engine. All toyota dealers in Ireland cannot get you this model, they only do the 2.5L here, and the 3.0L is for the american market or some other country. Anyway, moral of the story is: This "Granard" place can get you any jeep in any form you want from any country.

Nuttzy is referring to Kanes of Granard (in Longford) who are 4x4 specialists.
    See http://www.autotrader.ie/common/dealer_directory/longford.jsp
However, to get them to convert the x5 to commercial it would need to be brought to them, converted and then brought back to the VRO.
Are you allowed drive rhte vehicle before registering it? If you are found driving a passenger vehicle before converting it to commercial, is there VRT implications?
    etc.
