    Oh you muppet!!

I meant I'd prefer a pci over an isa if possible so as to save me isa slots & maybe if there's tiny performance enhancement bonus too.

    geez.

oh well, it is monday.... and 17.15, I am outta here... smile.gif

Is there such a thing as a pci modem ?

    yep. eg http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?kl=XX&pg=q&text=yes&q=%2Bpci+%2Bmodem

should have a slightly improved performance, but not much since the bottleneck is modem -> lineout, not mobo -> modem like gfx would be.

but I still dont know where I can get a decent internal modem in Dublin.... is Pete's worth visiting?

    Hi guys,

I need a new modem, and I haven't any clue as to what's out there.

Can anyone who's been keeping up with things lately tell me where in Dublin I can get a decent 56k internal & rough price?

    PCI prefered but not essential.

    Cheers,
    Al.

PS voice/fax Winmodem for sale, was preinstalled.. cant use it w/ Linux & ping sucks but works fine for non-gaming, connects at 48.8 avg..

My dads modem died before christmas so he got a PCI USR faxmodem (no, not a winmodem) from Compustore for about 75 quid, but I had trouble detecting it in his computer (an ooold AMD K5 machine).

Anyhow, I swapped out my Pace (ISA) and gave it to him and took the USR. The USR works fine, easy to set up and all, good connection speeds...

I think that they're cheaper there now.

I never noticed any difference in performance between the PCI and ISA modems either...

    Yes, I'm using one right now, it's a Zoom 56k and it kicks a s s smile.gif
I get a good 120 ping (QuakeWorld) at vishnu, and a 140 to 160 ping (Half-Life) at IGN.

Got it at PCWORLD in Blanchardstown for £60, sweet. smile.gif
