    Flask Mpeg
    http://www.flaskmpeg.net/index.php?page=down

extracts VOB files as mpegs- which can then be put onto CD
or VCD (I'd recommend Nero 5+ for this)

Personnaly i find mpeg2avi suits my needs best, is a lot faster than flask (which is good starting off though , very simple to use), typical backup time is about 2.5hours on my athlon 1.4gb, compared to 5 hours with flask.

CladDVD is a nice easy vob extractor that has always worked for me.

Anyhow, check out http://www.go.to/doom9 , which is THE best dvd backup guide site on the web.
