People shouldn't post such long posts. A lot of people don't even read the long ones cause they are just too long. Could we get the message out that people should try and limit there posts to one screen?

Long posts are not a problem. The problem is how you present that post.

Text on printed media is easier to read in large chunks then it is with a screen.

With a monitor you should break up paragraphs more often.

Take this as an example

Example 1: BAD VERY BAD. If you do this and it's pretty large most users will just get bored and ignore the rest of the text.

Example 2: Still not good. While most people will read on, or read the whole thing for people who don't have english as a second language (and I have noticed this more with Asian speaking people) they find it very confusing to read.

Example 3: The proper way to do it. Actually the quote comes from the BBC news site and they use the correct set up as well.

That said you can turn off sigs in your UserCP. all the same I like seeing sigs, just not 30k a user....

Hey I'm just saying this so that peole will read what the longer posters post. I personally feel rushed on boards as I am running up a phone bill so I will not read big massive things that take 5 mins each to read.

Well said. I haven't posted in a while but this was just to stupid to leave without comment.

I agree in that I get bored reading long posts, but if that happens, I do as 80project guy said and I just don't bother. I know that's a bit ignorant but I think its a little less ignorant than asking people not to post long posts, i mean wtf are you thinking.

Next time you come across a long post just save it for offline reading, and then you can reply when you have read it, and it leaves you free to spend your (admittedly expensive if over a phoneline) time reading short posts.

But some of them are FUNNY! Admittedly though, not as many as there should be. Originality is dead. 30k is a bit much though Digi_Tilmitt, and the animation is very distracting.

On the subject of long posts, well, I write very long posts quite a lot of the time, and there's absolutely no way I could cut them down and still get my point across. I guess it depends on the topic. Formatting and content counts for a lot though. Oh, and nearly all of us are running up phone bills man...

I'd rather read a several-screens-long post that's well thought out, intelligent, and coherent, than the two sentence $hite that you post most of the time.

If you send a letter of protest they will just laugh at it and throw it in the bin. But if you féck a chair through the window of an important building, then they say 'Oh no, we might get hurt. The little people are angry.' and then you have a much more positive impact

Well doc if that is your real name, I am flaming digi quite openly, but only because he desrerves it. Your point is a very valid point poorly formatted long posts are very hard to read (like this one). And if thats what digi was complaining about, then there would be no problem, because everyone agrees with that fact. However the fact remains that what digi is complaining about is long post, and not badly formatted posts, in other words what digi would like to see is a warning saying something along the lines of:
"Do not exceed xxxx characters in your reply to this post, as digi only has a dial up access, and doesn't like it when someone has an opinion they want to express, because it takes him longer to read the post"
which lets face it is not going to nor should it happen.
