    As a follow up to last week's article (Ireland bottom of the world league in terms of Internet usage), we receive some interesting information from Karen Kelly, who works for Nielsen NetRatings in Ireland.

    Karen reckons that speed of access and cost are key issues: apparently 97% of South Koreans have Internet access speeds above 56K (in Ireland, it's 97% at or below 56K).

    The importance of the speed issue is illustrated by the fact that the 3% of Irish Internet users who have high speed access from home account for 10% of all page impressions.

    Karen also tells us that the standard charge for unlimited high speed Internet access in South Korea is US$28 per month.

    We did ask the question in last week's issue as to what the South Koreans might be doing on the Internet: they lead the world with 19 hours plus usage per month.

    The fact that 50% of Internet users in South Korea are under 25 probably explains why playing games online and downloading videos is such a big part of their usage.
