Without writing a history of boards, it's a bunch of mates larking around: it has no business plan -- other than a general "take over the world" one -- and is supported (with no expectation of reward) by the businesses that some of its founders have set up, and the hard work of some very dedicated individuals. It's here for the fun.

That's why people get so narked about muppetry around here: it's not big, and not clever to p*ss on your own shoes -- and, in the case of boards, the community built this place, they police it, and they're very quick to defend it. How would you like it if someone tried to kick over the sandcastle you'd built?

It's free as in speech around here, not free as in beer: it's important to remember the difference.

You don't have to tippytoe around: just try to play by the community's rules.
