I love anime(the films) and manga(the comics) too! But Violence Jack is so so so very crap! Go to Cloud's other boards on MangaToAnime and have a look around.

*grin* You could say I like manga/anime a bit, yes...

Manga Video hasn't released much good stuff over here sadly; Macross Plus, Project A-Ko, Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor... er, that's about it really. Most of their back catalogue is downright terrible.

The really good stuff has to be imported on DVD from the USA... Thankfully there are some places, like the wonderful chaps at United Publications, who specialise in just that.

Went to see a cinema screening of Mononoke Hime in the Barbican yesterday, as it happens. Really amazing the difference it makes, seeing it on the big screen. Such a shame that Buena Vista didn't see fit to release it theatrically over here.

Still. Nausicaa next week, Laputa the week after. W00t! :)

It's amazing how Manga has become really popular again - maybe moreso than before over here. I remember when I was 14 15 upwards buying stuff like Crying Freeman, Golgo 13, Ultimate Teacher, Urotsukidoji, Wicked City and The Guyver and boy were those cartoons ace! Then its popularity just died but I suppose through Pokemon, it's back again.

I think, though, that the quality of the new cartoons has gone down. Jap animation ain't where it's at anymore. I'm just waiting for the new Richard Linklater film 'Waking Life'.

Given that you've just named some of the most bloody awful animated works ever produced and then bemoaned the quality of current work (including some of the miyzaki flicks referred to by previous posters, I presume), not to mention that you're obviously referring exclusively to the MEL releases, I think we can take it that you're not exactly an authority on the subject of anime... Still, I'm sure we'll all take your belief that it's not "where it's at" with great seriousness and ponder it very deeply.

    hmmm some of my favourites

    Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
    Cowboy Bebop
    FuriKuri
    SF2
    Patlabor 1
    Macross +
    Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040
    Akira - The Manga

I'm by no means an authority but I haven't seen anything that gets me these days from the anime camp, I've just got bored with it and, personally, I can't see what's so interesting with Jap animation anymore. Most of the time they make better films but if I see something that blows my mind, I'll change it. I'm also just bored of comics for the same reason.
