    192mb memory? 128 + 64.. strange.

without a doubt the p3-700 system.
40 quid less and will outperform the other one.
spend the extra 40 on a proper modem though.
otherwise you _wont_ be playing online.
gateway modem is horrendous for gaming.

I just got my Gateway Athlon 650 and I'm much impressed. It flys along. The PIII may be £40 less for a slightly better chip, but getting the CD-RW and easily crackable DVD is worth it.

I always thought Athlons pi$$ed on PIII's in the benchmarks?

    BTW, sweet deals there MiCr0

Not in games Kharn. When I got my p3 600e, myself and sutty decided to do a little test against his athlon 750. So I clocked it at 750. 3dmark was about 5% higher. Quake 3 timedemo001 was 175 fps on the p3, about 126 on the athlon. Clocking the p3 to 900, I got 198 fps at fairly low detail and 130fps at 800 * 600 high quality.

afaik another month and they will have the athlone 1ghz proccessor for sale
why would you want that kinda power i have no idea, but there you go
spose you can run glquake at 5million fps, but then your eyes would probably just bleed smile.gif

wwman they got the athlon1000 for sale atm

for your purposes it wouldnt make much difference which chip to go for, they're both damn fast, and you wouldnt notice the difference in regular use (quake at normal or high quality would be more reliant on graphics card) either way you'd be happy..

so the cdrw (which i hadnt noticed earlier) clinchs it for the athlon system.

even though i wouldnt get it myself smile.gif

Micro It was actually suttys geforce card in the machine, and 128 megs of pc100 ram. I was testing it to see if it would be worth getting a geforce and it is so I am getting one on friday

    right
the pc will be ordered in 5 hours.
    i'll take a vote
at the moment i'm inclined towards the athlon system

    Athlon 1
    Pentium 2

for that amount of money, you would think they would give you a ddr geforce. That will be the limiting factor when playing games. I would also get the p3, it has a bigger hard drive and its faster. But then again I wouldnt buy anything from gateway

    i prefer intel.
    thats just me though.
like i said for the majority of applications there is no discernable difference.

the smaller hd space on the athlon platform wont make too much difference either not when you have the burner there.

anyway.. just ****in buy one ffs.
    toss a coin smile.gif
