Right I got a philips DVD and it thinks its a cd-rom how do i set the thing up I can get at least software decoding.

did any software come with the drive?

If so you might want to install it

No I don't have any software with the dvd rom i should have software from ATI but they didn't put it on the cd.

Well you'll need to download a DVD Software player to play films. Try somewhere like www.tucows.com or www.zdnet.com .
