old gateway pc/graphics card

    the pc that i've been stuck on at the moment is a gp6-400 pentium II.
    complete pos but hey what can u do.

    any way the graphics are 256 colours and its unbareable.

    the graphics card is just in as a vga compliant card.
    does any 1 know what the base card for this system would be?

    Go to a dos prompt.
    Type debug and hit enter
    Type dc000:010 and hit enter

    Over on the right you will see the exact make and model of your gfx card.
    Type q to quit debug.
    Go download the correct drivers.

    Voila.

    I gotta Gateway GP7-500 with a [useless] on-board sound card. Anyone know what model it could be? Need to get nt drivers, no sound is wrecking my head....

    gateways ship with ati cards.
    try "rage 3d pro" or something similar
    if all else fails open it up and check smile.gif
