Upgrading NT to dual processor

    Yep, done it few times. If you're working with a Compaq server its a piece of p!ss, just get the most up to date Compaq SSD for NT4.0 and run the multi-processor HAL upgrade. Check out http://www.compaq.com/support/techpubs/customer_advisories/m1031-01.html for more info.

    If its non-Compaq, its a tad more awkward. You need to install a fresh copy of NT, boot into that (which iwill include an MPS HAL) and play about with copying system files to and fro.     You may also need to mess about with APIC mapped mode in the BIOS.

    I'm assuming that you want to preserve your NT installation. If not, forget all of the above and install NT from scratch.

    Thanks for the info.
    Yep its all compaq and I've got the ssd so I'm not expecting any probs.
    Just wondering if there were any hidden pitfalls - you know yourself.
