    NetValue, the global Internet usage monitor, has calculated that there are fifteen million UK homes with an Internet connection. That is a whopping 53 per cent increase over the figure for last year. One million new homes connected between June and September. People are also spending more time online.

    The recent report from Oftel on the same subject, which has received wide publicity, had it that the number of homes connected to the Internet had fallen a tad, from 40 per cent to 39 per cent. This was taken as a sign that perhaps the penetration of Internet access had reach a plateau, for the time being at least.

    All this shows that if you want a definitive answer out of market research, only get one report done.

    I think that electricnet article re: ADSL connections kinda confirms the reg's article. It also seems that the time of making a quick buck in the communications industry has passed. It looks like the Irish telco's don't (want to) realise that to make a profit, you have to make a loss at the start, just the way it was before the mobile market exploded. Any way we can make them look past the short-term and into the long-term? :)
