Both myself and Marco will be attending this event in the Great Southern Hotel, Cork Airport, on Tuesday at 6.30pm, and we would like to invite IrelandOffline members to attend, particularly those representing businesses. Registration is free for IIA members, or a fiver for non-members. You can register by sending an email to events@iia.ie with "Cork Event" in the subject line.

The brief of the event is: "Where is Irish business with respect to the internet, who's connected, who's buying, who's investing and who's going to profit? This is an essential briefing for businesses.", and the format is four presentations followed by Q&A. The speakers are:

Mary Mangan - Chief Operating Officer, ireland.com

Renate Murphy - Project Manager - South West Region SME E-Business Programme, Chambers of Commerce Ireland

John Higgins - Director, Eyrnst & Young

Martin O'Brien - Investment Director, ICC

It should be noted that while myself and Marco will be wearing our IrelandOffline hats on the night - that's not meant to be taken literally - we will be in the audience, and will only speak on behalf of the group if the opportunity arises. We expect any IrelandOffline members who attend to be on their best behaviour, as they did at the seminar. Hope to see you there.

Well, that saves me having to send you a personal invite Damien, if you're /that/ Damien. Ronan will probably be there too.

I could very well endeavour to attend also.. Presuming of course that I'm not

a. At work

or

b. Incarcerated

Sounds like an interesting event.. Grand its not a 'heckle at the superpowers' type affair but more of a take stock and see whats shakin' type thing. That is of course if neither of you gents mind me attending?

Be honoured rymus. I'll probably hang around afterwards to answer any questions, in particular to clear up some of the misconceptions associated with the Blackout initiative; and I can see myself and Ronan having a few pints afterwards too. I'll post again on Monday and we can arrange to meet somewhere in the hotel beforehand.

nice one. might even bring my new laptop to show off and to highlight how stupid some newbies really are.. yes, I bought my laptop from a newbie.... robbed him blind, but I aint complainin :)

Only reason I asked was because I thought this may have been a 'closed doors' kind of event where you only turn up if you either know a speaker or something like that. Forgive my ignorance.

Thanks for the reminder! But for some reason I thought it was going to be Wednesday. :-)

On another note, I am on Holidays this week and hopefully going to be travelling up to Dublin on Friday staying a night or two.

So if there is anyone heading up early on Friday and chances of a
icon14.gif.

Or else anyone interested in sharing the cost of a car rental/fuel and coming along with me!

Just curious! If I rent the car I could make pitstops on the way and take a few photos of any people organising events in there area. Just a suggestion.

Marco will be wearing our IrelandOffline hats
Are you reffering to real wearable hat's. If so where do you get one! If not okay!

???? For the night! to Ireland.com !

"Given the current lack of broadband and flatrate access in Ireland. And your recent choice to move your mail service to a paying service for US $30 per annum! (In dollars not targeting the home market? Vat?) When you can get a domain name with multiple alias and with hosting (cgi-bin, php, mysql ...etc for about $35 dollars per annum [e.g. duploweb.com]). Do you see many people jumping on board?"

Damien, no, I was going to invite you as the chairman of CorkWAN. I'm thick, but me some slack! :) Marco's another IO committee member.

Rymus, it's an open event. Just don't forget to register.

Corkie, unless there's a rash of Cork people decide to protest on Pana on Friday, I'll be driving up on either Thursday night or Friday morning, early, so you or anyone else will be welcome to toddle along. Only people who spend a minimum of two hours entertaining us in Dublin are welcome though. :)

As to the hats, like is says, that wasn't meant to be taken literally. I will be purchasing some of that iron-on paper tomorrow though...

well balls anyway.. the boot of God has firmly struck me on the left buttock once again and cruel fate has decided that I'm working on Tuesday night. What a bummer. I could not turn up for work, but then I'd get fired and possibly beaten up by the large scary (and hairy) woman who calls herself manager. Looks like I'm not going to be attending after all.

I shall trust the attendee's to document the proceedings well and gizza run-down of what went down afterwards. Fanks

Quite possible. I've been told she 'gets around'. Yah cant beat hierarchy - she's technically not my boss directly.. more my supervisors manager. Woohoo for 12 hour shifts :(
