i'm just about to get a new pc and network the old and the new together.
the problem the old is a p75 circa 1996 and the new is new. would a pc that old have a pci slot? or can i put an isa card in it and a pci card in the new one?

ps can any one recommend some cards/types?

yeah as was said the pci will be there
so any bog standard 10/100 card would do for a home network.. pick them up easily for about 20 quid.

you'd more than likely have more hassle with an isa card anyway.

yeah filling up the 16bit slot heh
but.. what you needed was the first awe 32 or the gravis (crap what was the name.. first 3d soundcard) ultrasound?
    now they were huge.
good to see 3dfx going back in that direction though wink.gif

If possible, get yerself 3com cards, a bit more costly, but worth the extra cash. Recent Linux versions have suppport for a wide range of 3Com NICs. If they are the same make, you could save yerself some cash by not buying a hub and getting a crossover cable (lenght of CAT-5 UTP\STP with green and orange pairs swapped about). Oh yeah, 3COM ISA cards are the easiest yokes in the world to configure. especially the 3C905-TPO and the 3C905-Combo PnP. Bring back Micro-channel!

MiCrO it's a good deal, they're great cards.
I'd go for Cat5 UTP, unless you know you absolutely need the shielding (Pretty unlikely).
