It's going to take some time, but I think it's almost certain it will happen. The CorkWAN are pretty advanced at this stage, having met with the ODTR last week. I think they've already run a few small tests, and they have an offer of some equipment for further testing. Getting backhaul is the major problem facing them to make it useable for people like me. You should join in on their forum or mailing lists, or even go to a meeting. Well, if you want of course... :)

I've heard of it alright. :) The technology is off the shelf stuff so its easy enough to set up. The distances you get at the moment aren't super and could be better but we're constrained by power output regulations.

Local links should be fine. The different Wans in Ireland have done tests and some have turned out to work well.

Its a good idea in theory and in practice its working out fine too. Things are going very well now and we are making good progress every week. But then I'm somewhat biased.

Yeah I have heard of it. I run the Dublni branch of it. If you want more info, go to http://www.irishwan.org , and http://dublin.irishwan.org

I have put up a few good faqs on WANS, and answered them of course.

Check it out if you like
