    Hi guys,

here a short report how things went in Athlone ( please excuse bad grammar, typos etc. I am still struggling with the after-effects of the post-blackout get-together):

Now, let's start with Thursday... MS actually was so keen to get going that he stumbled into every pub in Athlone to dish out the leaflets. And that during the match!! | That's what I call commitment!!! He handed out approx. 600 flyers.

On Friday, at about 12:45 we started handing out leaflets close to the Golden Island Shopping Centre. We were 4 people alltogether, although only 3 were dealing out leaflets, as campaigner 4 couldn't help due to (very valid) reasons we do not want to mention...
Interest was very good and reactions generally positive. We actually were forced to take a few breaks, otherwise we would have run out of our (approximately 1200 flyers) within the first 2 hours...
We managed to 'hould out' until about 18:30h, then the call of the pub just got too irresistable and off we went. Off course all our flyers had found new owners.

We then 'monitored ourselves' until about 00:30h in one of the local pubs to ensure that none of the campaigners was actually breaching the blackout...
Well, and although it was mentioned by at least one person that he wanted to go online as soon as he would be home (some time Saturday morning). I have the strange feeling that those plans were destroyed by the effects of overconsuption of the 'black stuff' and the "uisghe beatha'.

The Athlone-team want to especially thank MS who basically organized the whole event up here in the 'Heart of Ireland' and who also provided us with the nearly 2000 copies of the blackout-flyer.

That's all from here, going back into 'recovery mode',

Good on ya guys! Thanks for doing that! Quite interesting to see the reactions, eh? Most people held onto them or asked questions about it. One woman said "Oh, is this about not connecting today?" :-) Another said "Blackout? OH! The Net Blackout, totally!!"

Best score of the day...handing a flyer in the window of a passing eircom van :-).
