I put the new modem in, and binned the winmodem one.

    Tested it, works fine.

tried to connect and it kept hanging at the login.

    Created a script....
    Expect "ogin:"
    ID
    Expect "assword:"
    Password

Now the connection will log into the server, but after that pppd dies and I don't know why. frown.gif

I've tried setting it to PAP, CHAP, Terminal and script. nothing.

    Anyone know the answer?

umm.. not really sure, but have a look at www.linux.ie. They have scriptss for most of the isp's which should make things a bit easier for you. Or else, use kppp, which i found to be the bees knees for connecting to the internet.

Can I sugest wvdial? It's a great progran for setting up dial up scripts. Also there is a program that I use called ppp-setup. So a serach on <url>www.freahmeat.net</url>. I got it in the tarball for a program called Masq server.

    Woohoo!

Thanks for the help but here was the problems...

1: Had to increase modem timeout
2: Had to increase PPP timeout
3: Added 'noauth' to pppd arguments+/etc/ppp/options.
4: Set Auth to 'script based'
