am i just being stupid?

    have new laptop and set up eudora on it. But for some reason i can't change the return email address on my accounts. Well, i can but the mail servers won't send them ie. when my address is bats@yahoo.com and the return address is bats@batcave.com it refuses to process. It seems to be the same with outlook.

    am i just being really stupid here? If so, could someone please have mercy because it's really annoying :[

    What outgoing SMTP server and which ISP are you using?
    Assuming your on an ISP that is :)
    You should be using your ISP's outgoing SMTP server to send mail out.

    aah, i'm using eircom, which might explain it. Better go and get smtp settings from them then. Thanks moist, apologies for stupidity on my part ;)

    they're mail.eircom.net
    Uses same one afaik.
    mail2.eircom.net also works.

    well mail2.eircom.net has 4 servers in round robbin,
    mail1.eircom.net has the same 4 plus another one.

    mail.eircom.net apparently does not exist.

    Just use mail1.eircom.net
