Colt Telecom has completed its 65km telecoms network ring in Dublin city centre. The network consists of an eight kilometre ring in the north inner city, a ten kilometre ring in the south inner city between the Liffey and the Grand Canal, an extra loop to Ballsbridge/Donnybrook and a cross-river link to the Colt network operations centre on East Wall Road.

Esat has won a EUR2.5 million contract to supply advanced telecoms services to Microsoft between the company's Sandyford corporate headquarters and Eircom's Internet data centre at Citywest business park. Esat will supply Microsoft with a very high capacity telecoms circuit called an STM4, which is about 20,000 times faster than a typical ISDN line.
