I hate that stupid ****. Its moronic and pointless. I've to put up with in in every area of my work and I'm damned if I will have to put up with it on boards I pay for.

Unix is a perfectly good OS, I started my carreer on it and its great. But many people have no choice about the platform, or choose Windows for perfectly good reasons.
The snobbery of the Unix crew who come off sounding like children on high horses p|sses me off. We've supported Unix with boards for ages and you dont see Windows trolls in there, nor will I tolerate them.

This board is for support, help requests, discussion and information dissemination about MS's various platforms and the apps that run on them. Its NOT for childish infights and snide comments.

The fastest way to get banned from Boards will be to troll here. Call it a psychological weakness. Tyepdef, this means you too.

Of course you'll say anything you want DeV, it's your stomping ground after all. But don't you see the utter hypocrisy in that post? You're lumping all the *nix and *nux people into the one category. Sure, a lot of *nix and *nux folk do the same with the Win* peeps, but we're not all like that. I'm a Linux and Open Source advocate, and sure, I take the mick out of Windows all the time, but I take the mick out of Windows, not the users. (Ok, I call them lusers every now and then, but Linux newbies get the same treatment.)

And hell, I *use* Windows every day, so it's not Windows in particular I have a problem with - I'm running W2K at the moment and it's more stable than my RHL7.2 install - just certain things about it, its users, and the company behind it. All I'm saying is, not all *nix and *nux users are bearded, freaks, or evil empire whingers, and I wish people, particularly people who are complaining about being branded, wouldn't brand them that way. Like I said, it's hypocritical, and it's why the battle between Good and Evil - assign whichever you want wherever you want - just goes on and on.

What I don't get at all is why I've been made a moderator here without consultation. Sure, I know a fair bit about Windows, but is that supposed to be funny?

So what if you pay for the boards? If you said I vote Fine Gael, I pay for the boards, so anyone who says they won't vote for Fine Gael is dead, I'd say, stuff it I say I'll vote for who I like, Fuhrer Dev shan't impose his lofty political will on me. Go invite your mates if you are so empassioned about the boards, while the boards are public I will speak my mind, I don't post to these boards to keep you happy, you pay for it and make it public then deal with the consequences don't whinge when people say things you don't like. Also I think I might have to take issue with you grouping anything non-Microsoft as being Unix. While OSX may be based on BSD code (as I may point out rumour has it m$ robbed the BSD tcp/ip stack) I don't think anyone could possibly insult and call OSX a unix do you? Also is Linux Unix or is it Unix like? Therefore if it is Unix like as Linus Torvalds would seem to think it is, is it alright if I say that Linux is better than windows(which it is) or does your quasi-fascist, no anti windows definition extend to Open source Unix derivatives.

Wow, what a thread, I don't think I've ever seen one like it, and this is a "how this board works" thread, amazing, Typedef grow up man, DeV knows your not an idiot and I think every1 respects your intelligence (those on UNIX board anyway), but your hatred of windows and ms is well known, and the type of opinion DeV is talking about is idiotical (I'm talking about people looking down on people just because they chose a different piece of SW), so why don't you just make this the one board you don't post on (lord knows there are enough people who do it for CS).

I don't understand Baz, what's strange about it? I came in here a couple of hours ago and see myself listed as a moderator for this forum. Nobody told me about it, my handle just appeared there. I have no objection to being a moderator, I just would have expected to have been told about it. On top of that, I'm pretty well known as being a Linux advocate, so I thought it might be DeV's idea of a joke (or perhaps a mistake).

Boston, I don't remember asking to be mod, when or where was that? Last time I asked to be a mod was months ago, and that was for an active forum.

To be honest I think Dev made you made Mod because you seem to have a clue. But ironically Dev's attempt to stop the petty squabling out of the board from the start seems to have backfired.

Hey, I'm a moderator on webmaster and I know for a fact you know more than I'll ever know about webmasterererering. Likewise in games, Shinji knows all. I like to think that I'm a mod not because I'm an expert on the topic but because I try to keep the peace and kick heads when necessary.

Oh feck I'm mortified - yes, I was kidding. Keeks said that anyone who asked to be moderator should be 12-clicked, so I amp-tested him. I thought it was pretty obvious to be honest, I even left the spelling/grammer mistakes in. And I promptly forgot about it, because it was just one of those things.

Anyway, unless anyone objects, I'd be happy to mod the board, as long as everyone's happy with a mod and not an expert. I'll answer what I can, but for the most part I'll just be watching the threads for individuality... uh, sorry, dissent.

Hmmm, OK that is your personal opinion. What annoys me about Microsoft is not Microsoft themselves, but their product domination. This is bad. Microsoft make windows. Windows is a standard brought about by clever marketing skills. The operatig sysetm is becoming more like Unix every day. It is becoming stable, allowing remote access(reminds me of telnet).
Now haing that said I don't see any reason/excuse to bash desktop users of Microsoft Software. This is silly. Most people use Microsoft software, because, and only because they have to. I use Microsoft software to run an SSH Client, which I use to connect to a linux Server, and I then do all my work on that Linux server.

Shouldn't really be debating this here.... but as a side note, I was reading an old book called simply 'The Unix Operating System', and a paragraph in the introduction goes something like:

At this time(1978) there are 4 major vendors of Unix type OS's. Sun Microsystems..blah......Solaris(I think)..blah...Someone else....blah...and Microsoft Corporation, with their Xenix operating system....

Just something I found funny (and slightly bizarre) when I read it 2 weeks ago. It just shows that Microsoft have always had their heart in the right place. IMHO Microsoft did a good thing in opening up the computer world to normal people, stopping it from being the shadowed, cryptic, lone-nerds-sitting-around-computers-coding-their-fingers-to-the-bone, world it once was. Besides Microsoft are having their arse kicked by Linux/Unix in the corporate marketplace, where the figures actually count. As I said, 'tisn't the place to be discussing this

(Oh and I have never met a Unix guru who hated MS either. Plenty who don't know how to use a mouse, though )
